Hey y'all,
Can we talk about print mixing for a sec? I know it sounds like something only the girls with color-coded closets can pull off. But honestly, it's way more approachable than it looks and once you get the hang of it, it's one of the easiest ways to make an outfit feel like you instead of just "put together."
So let's break down how to mix prints without looking like you got dressed in the dark.
Start With One Print You Already Love
Before you even think about combinations, pick one statement print you're naturally drawn to. It could be a floral top, an animal-print skirt, a striped dress. That's your anchor piece. Everything else in the outfit is there to support it, not compete with it.
My rule of thumb: if you can't decide which print should be the main character, pick the one that feels the most you. The rest gets easier from there.
Pair Prints in Different Scales
This is the easiest trick in the book: pair a small print with a bigger one. A tiny polka dot with a bold floral. A fine stripe with a chunky animal print. When two prints are the same size, they compete for attention. When the scales are different, your eye can actually take in both.
Think of it like volume. One print talks, the other one just kind of hums along in the background.
For instance, a striped tank top with an animal print pant. Subtle black stripes on top, a busier animal print on the bottom — similar color family, totally different scale, and it works.

Let Color Do the Connecting
Prints mix best when they already share a color. If your floral top has hints of navy or cream, look for a striped or polka dot piece that pulls in that same tone. That shared color is what makes the pairing feel intentional instead of accidental and it's honestly the trick most people miss.
Break It Up With a Solid
Two prints can feel like a lot, and that's okay. Add a solid piece so your eyes have somewhere to rest like a solid jacket or cardigan over a printed top and bottom instantly makes the whole look feel balanced and way more wearable for everyday life. This time of year, a solid layer from our Jackets collection does the job perfectly while giving you something to throw on as the weather starts to shift.
Solid, print, solid. You really can't go wrong.
Keep Accessories Simple
When two prints are already doing the talking, this isn't the moment for five stacked necklaces and patterned shoes. Let the prints be the statement and keep your jewelry, bag, and shoes simple and neutral. A great pair of hoops and a structured neutral bag will always let the outfit shine without adding extra noise.
Start Small If You're Nervous
If two full prints still feels like too much, ease in with:
- A printed scarf over a solid outfit
- Printed shoes with an otherwise simple look
- A printed bag as your one "extra" element
Once that feels natural, you'll be ready to put two real prints together in one outfit, and it's honestly addictive once you start.
The Takeaway
Print mixing isn't really about rules, it's about balance. One dominant print, one supporting print, a shared color, and enough solid space to let it all breathe. Once you find that rhythm, you'll start spotting print combinations in your own closet that you never would have tried before.
