Fall is my favorite season to shop for, and also the trickiest one to dress for here in Texas. One week it's 95 degrees, the next it's a crisp 78 (lol) and everyone's pretending it's sweater weather (relatable). So instead of looking at fall trends for actual fall weather, I pulled together the pieces and colors that are trending and actually make sense for our version of fall: warm (hot) afternoons, coolish mornings, and maybe some genuinely cool days in November.
Here's what I'm loving for Fall 2026, and how to wear it without sweating through your look by lunchtime.
The Color Palette Is Warmer This Year
Forget the usual black-and-gray fall lineup. This season is leaning into chocolate brown, olive green, burgundy/wine, and navy, all anchored by cream instead of black. It's a richer, cozier palette that photographs beautifully and mixes easily.
How to wear it: Start with one hero color and build the rest of your outfit in neutrals. A burgundy top with jeans and cream accessories, or an olive sweater with your favorite denim, easy, no-overthinking outfits that still feel current.
Dark-Wash Denim Is Having a Full Moment
Deep indigo, minimal distressing, cleaner lines, dark denim is the most wearable trend of the season and pairs perfectly with all those rich fall colors. Wide-leg and relaxed fits are trending too, giving your denim a fresh, updated silhouette without sacrificing comfort.
How to wear it: A dark wide-leg jean with a fitted top balances proportions beautifully, and it transitions from a warm afternoon (roll the cuffs, add sandals) to a cooler evening (boots, a light jacket) without a full outfit change.
Texture Is the New Trend
Suede, corduroy, faux leather, and knit details are carrying this season's colors. Smooth, flat fabrics are taking a back seat to pieces you actually want to touch.
How to wear it: Lean on texture in smaller doses, a suede bag, a corduroy skirt, a knit cardigan you can tie around your waist when the sun comes out. You get the trend without the heat.
Statement Outerwear (Even If You Only Wear It a Few Weeks a Year)
Funnel-neck coats, oversized blazers, and lady jackets are everywhere this season. I know, I know "coat season" in Texas is basically three weeks long. But a great jacket is one of the highest-impact pieces you can own, and it's worth having one or two you genuinely love for cool mornings, evening dinners, and holiday travel.
How to wear it: Pick one statement piece, a chocolate brown or burgundy jacket works with almost everything else on this list. Let it do the heavy lifting over simple layers underneath.
Knee-High Boots Are Back
They elongate the leg, they work with skirts, dresses, and jeans alike, and they're the easiest way to make an outfit feel finished the moment it gets cool enough to wear them.
How to wear it: Save these for your genuinely cool days. Pair with a midi skirt or dark denim for an instantly put-together look.
Putting It All Together
If you only take one thing from this post: you don't need to overhaul your closet for fall. Add one or two pieces in this season's warm color palette, lean into dark denim you probably already love, and pick a statement jacket you'll reach for again and again.
